Damage and arson in the Appio Latino neighbourhood in solidarity with anarchist Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike to the bitter end (Rome, Italy, December 18, 2022)
We learn from the mass-media that on December 18, in Rome’s Appio Latino neighbourhood, shortly after midnight unknown persons damaged a number of bank facilities, including a post office – in particular, at least one ATM, that of the post office, was set on fire and some windows were smashed –, spilling into the street and also setting fire to some rubbish bins. According to media reports, the damage and fires occurred, very quickly, between Macedonia and Latina streets and Roselle square. Murals were left on some of the buildings: ‘Alfredo libero’ (‘Freedom for Alfredo’), ‘No 41 bis’, in reference to Alfredo Cospito, imprisoned anarchist on hunger strike to the bitter end against the 41 bis prison regime (in which he has been imprisoned since May 5) and life imprisonment without possibility of parole (which is likely to be the final sentence for the comrade at the end of the Scripta Manent trial, now in its final hearings).
The repressive forces, which arrived shortly after the events, were unable to stop anyone as the unknown persons had already left the area.
